Gutsman Galaxxor for Super Button Mashers Group Show at OhNo!Doom

I was recently invited to participate in a group art show at the OhNo!Doom Gallery here in Chicago. The name of the show is "Super Button Mashers" and the theme is classic video games. Naturally, I chose to make a one of a kind Galaxxor based upon Gutsman, a character from the Mega Man series of games. The aesthetic that has been built around that property is absolutely mind blowing and it continues to inspire me to this day.

As you can see, "Super Button Mashers" boasts a really impressive lineup of great artists and it sounds like the opening is going to be an absolute blast to attend!

As many of you may already know, in addition to working on the Galaxxor project, I also write for the blog and host the podcast over at Nerd City. The most recent show, Episode 129, is particularly of interest for Galaxxor fans, because I took a good bit of time to discuss Galaxxor. I covered the origins of the project, some never before discussed details of the storyline of the universe, and, most excitingly, I unveil my plans for the 6 exclusives that I will have for C2E2.

Check out these absolutely stunning images of the Galaxxor 009, straight from The Godbeast! The figure consists of chromed aluminum Airsoft pellets suspended inside of crystal clear, blacklight-reactive resin.
This was more or less a figure that I wanted to have made for myself, before the original mold wend bad. I would like to, however, allow fans and friends to have the opportunity to get their hands on one, too. Stay tuned for more details!

The Cyborg Space Barbarian Cometh

Here are some pics of the pretty much finalized sculpt of what I am affectionately calling the "Cyborg Space Barbarian" helmet. This is a design that's been knocking around in my head for a while now and is finally seeing the light of day. Scale-wise, it fits on the body of a vintage MOTU-style figure.
The question that I'm trying to sort out right now is that of what to do with it. I certainly want to have TGB cast some copies of this guy up in resin. From there, however, I have a couple of different options. Originally, I had the idea that I would track down some beat up and disused MOTU-style bodies from flea markets and second hand stores, swap out this head and give them a funky paint job and a good dose of TLC. Can I do that? Is that legal?
Another option would be to take about .25" off of the bottom of the helmet and use it as a new head for a Galaxxor? Would that interest people?
another option would be to do both, which is probably the most likely scenario. I'm curious to hear what other people think.

Here is a pic of the Galaxxor 008 prototype. It features a really eye-catching finish of Grape Ape by Monster Kolor, with a liberal dusting of their rainbow holographic glitter for added "pizzazz". I'm still trying to figure out how best to capture the effect in a picture (as evidenced by this experimental attempt on my space kitchen counter with a space cutting board as the backdrop), but I hope to have some great pics in the near future. Along with those will be coming details on the when? where? how many? and how much?'s of the 008's.

More Xenotron WIP

I just wanted to do a quick post to update the progress on my Xenotron: Techno-Organic Alien Mecha sculpt. Due to my lack of anything remotely resembling any technical sculpting skill, I move very slowly. But I'm quite pleased with how things are coming along.

Obviously, there is a great deal of work yet to be done here, in terms of cleaning things up and fine tuning certain shapes. For example, I'm thinking that I would like his forearms to taper quite a bit more towards the top.

An Image from the Future?

Last night, somewhere in a fortress in the far reaches of space known as Onell HQ, Marty "The Godbeast" Hansen and Onell Design's Matt Doughty were hard at work sketching out their plans for intergalactic domination and NYCC. During this session, Matt sketched up his ideas for slight modifications to the original Galaxxor design, should it ever move towards a vinyl production figure.
The idea is essentially to maintain the classic 5.5" figure style and dimensions, but to add a little bit of extra visual interest here and there, while also incorporating a bit more in the way of articulation and compatibility with similarly-sized Glyos vinyls like the Armodoc and Rig.
I think the design looks great, and I'm honored that Matt has taken an interest in my humble little creation. What say you?
If you're headed to NYCC this weekend, be sure to pop by the Onell booth (#578 in The Cultyard) to check out all of the awesome stuff that Matt and Marty will have on hand. Marty should have a very limited number of blank DIY Galaxxors, so be sure to get your hands on one of those, too!

Galaxxor 007 Header Card Art Preview

Check out this awesome piece of art which is about to become the header card for the next Galaxxor release, Galaxxor 007! This was done by none other than Tim Seeley, with some amazing colorization by Ryan Browne.

A Xenotron Swarm Gone Supernova, A Red September on the Horizon

Check out these awesome pics, courtesy of a recent entry on The Godbeast's blog, of some unpainted Galaxxor 006's. These photos were taken just before these 4 were shipped off to me. I do intend to do a couple of very minor embellishments to the final pieces, but, what you're seeing here will be pretty close to the final look of the Galaxxor 006.
To clarify, these are cast is crystal clear resin with translucent red and white glow in the dark bb's suspended within them. They will be limited to an edition of 3 (I'm keeping 1 of these guys!), and I should have final pics and drop info early next week.

005 Transmissions from The Godbeast

This is some truly exciting stuff! I had the vision, but it was only through the incomparable skill of The Godbeast that the base for what will be Galaxxor 005 has become a reality. Pictured here (originally posted on The Godbeast's blog) is a crystal clear resin Galaxxor body that is absolutely jam packed with neon yellow bb's (or is that a hive of Xenotron drones?). As you can see, these guys really look great under blacklight, as well.
Also pictured are some really cool Glyos Mutant figures that are a collaboration between The Godbeast and the extremely talented Jason Frailey.

I will obviously post more news here as things progress. Keep an eye out for more 005 updates, very soon!

Chrome Dome CMYKamo Galaxxor

Here is s one-off figure that I did , featuring a chromed dome and a hand-painted CMYK camo pattern. The original intention was to create the piece for the Resin Toy Juried Show that Toy Art Gallery in Los Angeles is putting on. I'm 99.999% sure that I got this in to them, just under the wire. Regardless, the show opens this Friday night and will feature a lot of my friends and heroes, so it will most certainly be awesome.
What is also particularly interesting about this piece is that the body was roto cast in resin by The Godbeast, meaning that, unlike previous Galaxxors, this figure has a hollow body. I really like the idea of doing the occasional 1/1 Galaxxor, and even have a second one in the works.

Xenotron WIP

Above are images of the work in progress sculpt for my second figure, Xenotron: Techno-Organic Alien Mecha. As you can see, there is still quite a bit of refining (and arms!) needed. However, I wanted to get everyone an update of how this figure is coming along. As you can see, this figure is inspired by many of the same things as the Galaxxor sculpt, and is intended to be an additional figure within that hypothetical "line". Any comments or criticisms are most certainly welcome.
It's also worth noting that the coming of the Xenotron figure is in no way the end of Galaxxor figures. It has always been my intention to develop a few of these sculpts and release them all intermittently.
And, yes, I know that Xenotron is the name of a font.

C2E2 Videos from The Pop Culture Network

This past weekend at C2E2 was a great time! The Nerd City booth was the place to be, where we hung out with our extended crew, including The Godbeast and his family. We also spent a lot of time hanging out with the gang from The Pop Culture Network, who were kind enough to do not one, but two video segments on Galaxxor. The first of which is the one above, that hopefully gives you a little bit better sense of the various surfaces and optical effects that I have employed on the various figures up to this point. The second video is Pixel Dan's interview with yours truly. Be warned- I am EXTREMELY hungover in this video. So, if you have a thing for baggy undereyes, this may drive you insane with passion.

All of the Galaxxor 004 figures literally sold out in a matter of minutes. I still do, however, have a couple of 002 and 003's left. They are now back up and available in the online store.
Again, thanks to everyone who made C2E2 such an awesome event, and thanks to the PCN crew for the great coverage!

I think I finally was able to capture a bit of the 004's rainbow holographic effect in a pic!
Well, as you probably already know, The Galaxxor 004 will be exclusively available from the Nerd City booth #1026 at C2E2, March 18-20th. I will certainly be at the booth, as well as The Godbeast, and we'll be more than happy to talk Galaxxor with anyone who would care to. What you might not have known is that, since it's looking like the 004's are going to vanish in the blink of an eye, I'll be bringing the remaining couple of 002's and 003's so that everyone can hopefully get their Galaxxor fix.
Even if you're not in the market to pick up one of these guys, be sure to pop by the Nerd City booth and say "hi". I plan to have on display every edition of Galaxxor thus far, as well as a couple of very interesting surprises!

004 WIP

Straight from The Godbeast, himself, comes this WIP image of the Galaxxor 004. They are now headed my way for some painting/fine tuning. This should give a pretty good sense of the colorway, however, the holographic glitter that you see on the black body will be significantly enhanced by the painting process.

004 Heads and Header

These are images of the front and back of the original sculpt, courtesy of Onell Design's Matt Doughty, for the head of Galaxxor 004. What's really amazing about this piece is that it can essentially function in either direction, as either a visored head or a mutated cyclops brain head. Pure evil genius. It's looking like the head for the 004 edition will come packed with the visor facing forward. However, if there is enough demand (and there certainly seems to be!), the 005 might feature this head as well, or maybe even the other head that Matt sculpted for this project! You'll just have to wait to see exactly what color The Godbeast will be casting these little monstrosities in, but this outstanding header card art by Dork Dimension's Nate Newell should give you a pretty good indication:

Intercepted Transmissions

These scrambled transmissions hint at the awesomeness that is going to be Galaxxor 004! The fourth figure in the Galaxxor line will be a collaboration with none other than Matt Doughty of Onell Design. Matt has provided an amazing new head sculpt and the body will be the traditional Galaxxor shape. Additionally, header card duties will be handled by the brilliant Nate Newell of Dork Dimension. The mold making and casting will be courtesy of The Godbeast.
These will be limited to an edition of 5 and sold exclusively at Nerd City's booth 1026 at C2E2.

Here is an image of the final paint scheme for the Galaxxor 003 colorway. The body is a blacklight reactive magenta resin with purple and neon green hand painted detailing. The dome is a crystal clear blacklight reactive material and it houses a glow in the dark neon green brain with black paint rub detailing.
More pics and official drop info coming soon, but I would expect the official release to be towards the end of February, as this figure is fairly labor intensive. Once again the edition size for this will be 5.
Also, if anyone's still interested, there are 2 Galaxxor 002s in the online store with your name on them.

003 WIP

Well, I know that I just recently posted the blacklight glowing image of this guy from The Godbeast, but I wanted to get up a pic asap to show just how cool this neon magenta resin looks without any blacklight help! The overall brightness of the plastic does tend to play some funny tricks with the camera, but, through the magic of Photoshop, I feel I have fairly accurately conveyed how intense the magenta truly is.
I have also begun messing around with a black paint rub technique, to really pop the details of the glow in the dark neon green brain contained in that pointy dome that the 003 has. I'm pretty certain that I'm going to stick with the rub, but am certainly open to any feedback.
Also worth noting is that there are still 2 Galaxxor 002's left in the shop. So, if you're thinking that you want one of them, be sure to grab it here.

Electric Boogaloo

Here's a quick work in progress pic of the Galaxxor 002 colorway. I'm very pleased with this design thus far and very much looking forward to seeing how it eventually turns out!
By the way, congrats to everyone who scored a Galaxxor 001. It sold out in just under 20 hours! All 5 of them should be either in their new homes, or in the final leg of their intergalactic journey and popping up any day now.
It all depends on how busy I end up being during the holidays, but I'm guessing that the Galaxxor 002's will see an early 2011 release. Stay tuned!

Here we have the header card back for the first few Galaxxors. Once again, an outstandingly badass piece of art by Mr. Steve Seeley, this image features Galaxxor doing what he does best- fighting monsters!
If you're wondering on the status of the drop of the Galaxxor 001's, my best guestimate would be early November. Painting is going really well and I should have some high quality images of the finished Galaxxor 001 colorway up next week, along with an official release date.

Galaxxor 001 Paint WIP

I'm not entirely sure how interested anyone is in seeing this, but I wanted to get up an image to show that I have begun the painting of the Galaxxor 001's. Shown here are just the base colors. I have a bit of detailing that I plan to do in other colors, but probably won't be showing any of that until I have the final, polished product to show. At that time, I will give concrete details of the price, date and time of the sale of the 5 Galaxxor 001's in the Galaxxor Online Store.

Final Galaxxor 001 Transmission from The Godbeast

Before shipping off the unpainted Galaxxor 001's to me, The Godbeast snapped these sweet pics of them and posted them to his blog. They are seen here with the white prototype sculpt, a gray resin prototype (just in case Galaxxor decides to go vinyl), and the awesome Mammoth Monster figure, designed by TGB's son, MJ.
The Galaxxor 001's should be showing up on my doorstep any day now, and I can't wait to get up some WIP painting images up of them asap. I'm still aiming for a OCtober sale date for the 001's through The Galaxxor Online Store.

Unpainted Cyan Galaxxors in Blacklight

Courtesy of The Godbeast, we have these awesome pics of three of the unpainted Galaxxor 001 figures (in translucent cyan resin) glowing under a blacklight. So yeah, to add to the awesomeness, the pieces in this first run will feature a uv reactive glow feature. In other news, I am very happy to announce that Steve Seeley has agreed to handle the header card art duties for Galaxxor. This is super cool, because Steve's not only a great guy, but also one of my favorite artists! Check out Steve's site here.
Finally, I've been getting a lot of questions regarding how and when Galaxxor 001 will be available for purchase. Please stay tuned to this blog, as I will give you plenty of forewarning here. This will also be the actual place to order the toy when it finally does go on sale. The initial edition of 5 should drop in October some time. But yeah, keep an eye on the blog for more details/developments!

A Few More Pics of the Prototype

Kirby did such a great job of photographing the Galaxxor prototype that I felt I should post a few more pics. It also provides me with the chance to show it from a few additional angles, as well.
I did speak to The Godbeast this past weekend and the mold creation process is probably underway right now. So, it shouldn't be too long before we start to see images of the first resin figures.

Galaxxor is Coming

Yes. Galaxxor is, in fact, coming. After approx 8 months of trying to figure out how to sculpt, sculpting, sanding, painting, sanding, rethinking, sanding, sculpting and painting, the prototype for Galaxxor is as complete as it's going to be and on its way to my man, Marty Hansen, aka The Godbeast. Marty is going to be using his second to none skills to clone this guy into some very limited editions of resin figures that I will then hand paint and unleash upon the world.

This blog, along with nerdcityonline.com, will be the center of the Galaxxor Universe, and will therefore be the best place to keep up to date on our progress with the project and how to get your hands on a Galaxxor of your very own.

So please stay tuned. I'm certainly learning as I go with this one, but it should be a lot of fun. Any and all input and/or advice is greatly appreciated.
